This option in the nvidia settings you posted only comes into play with older games that run in lower aspect ratios. For example i used to play Diablo 2 on modern hardware. It was a 4:3 game at like 800x600 res back in 1999. With scaling on it takes the 800x600 res and stretches it to 16:9 1440p and looks like absolute dog shit.
