Just considering my options. 1997 - 2003 Ford F150 - Spare tire hanger won't come down - Well after trusting my new differential fluid wouldn't leak. Driving for a while all has returned to normal working. Today I went to go put the spare back under the truck and the damn hanger won't drop down.

With a little push, the socket fits snuggly around the outside of the lock mechanism and you can lower the spare tire. In my case, the socket stuck so well I could not remove it by pulling out the extensions.
