On a standard deck height motor (9.025), I have heard a fraction of horror stories from guys who built a 3.875 stroke motors compared to the guys with 4 inch stroke. If going with a tall deck (9.3) The 4 inch works fine because it corrects the rod ratio.Add in the fact that they're lighter, and its hard to compare. But, as has been said before, BBCs offer more cubes. A simple 60-over 454 displaces 468, so if its big cubes you want, you have to go BBC. But if we're comparing a 400 SBC and a 396 or 402 BBC, Hands down, I'd pick the SBC.
