Since it can drop duplicate gear I went from having 1/3 gear pieces to having 1/3 gear pieces by going from just enough spellements for 8 pip dark and stormy to 100 over, then I gave up and crafted. I would say that my runs are usually 8-12 rounds unfortunately. farming with randoms can be frustrating but it is what it is.

You don't absolutely have to have the new novus gear, you can absolutely get by without it. The stats on the novus gear is just a little bit higher than merciless, so you'll be fine. for pve it basically doesn't matter. you can beat everything solo with far worse than merciless. pvp is a totally different story. Merciless gear is definitely worth it. Novus gear is the most grindy gear to get in the game. Merciless is much more attainable, not to mention there's the Lemuria World pack which is guaranteed to give you one piece per opening. From my experience, I got an average of 3 pieces per opening.For a lot of schools, merc hat, boots, ring, and athame is the best idea. Then you can run a robe for pips and accuracy (usually darkmoor or tennisyn) and still be able to get full stats.
