When your new tires have 40,000 miles on them they will be almost the same size as your old tires and spare when they are new. Most AT tires start with 1/2"-3/4" of tread. When they wear down to the legal minimum they will be 1" or more smaller than when new.

(That would be a very expensive option to get that capability.
