While Christian was still alive, in order to remove DNA evidence, Christian's attackers poured bleach down her throat and scrubbed her body, including her bleeding and battered genital area, with bleach. Christian was bound in a hog-tied fashion with curtains and strips of bedding.

They were murdered and, according to a Tennessee grand jury, both the man and woman were raped after being kidnapped early on the morning of January 7, 2007. Their vehicle had been carjacked.[1][2]Chances are, unless you live in Tennessee, you will not recognize the names Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. Christian, 21, and Newsome, 23, both of Knoxville, were driving through that city together on the night of January 6 when they were kidnapped and murdered. [Newsom's] burned body was found along some railroad tracks on January 7.In the wee hours of that Sunday morning, Newsom and Christian were carjacked at gunpoint in her parents' 2005 Toyota 4-Runner and brought back to the house on Chipman. Christopher Newsom was raped over and over again (semen was found in his anus) and sodomized with an unknown object. He was blindfolded, gagged, and bound at the hands and feet.

It was random. The perps had driven to the apartment complex the couple was at to find one of the guys a girl (that's the gist of it) when they saw Newsom and Christian standing by Christian's 4Runner "in an embrace" and decided to kidnap and carjack the couple.
