Ended up using Ars Nouveau to passive-farm a captured Piglich. It is not very fast, but super easy to set up, passive and very un-laggy. And you can take the captured Piglich with you and do it in your base. I know this does not anwser your posed question of why you can not place the block.

There isn’t really good advice how to farm him since he behaves differently in the modpack. Just gotta be a gamer.
