The train ride up to the summit is spectacular in terms of views and engineering. The whole operation has been updated and re-opened I think in 2021 with modern carriages and brand new track which makes for a comfortable ride. It uses a Marsh rack system and both steam and biodiesel powered locomotives to carry tourists to the top of the nountain.The railway is about 3 miles long. The train ascends the mountain at 2.8 miles per hour and desends at 4.6 miles per hour.Steam locomotives take about 65 minutes to reach the top. Read more.

The Cog railway station is also a great place to hike up to the top in only a few hours. If it's a nice day, bring another SD card for the photos. I have only taken the train to the top once and lucked out all the way up and down. I took about 140 pics with 50-55 being keepers. I have hiked up 11 times and driven up three.
