The main draw for Oanda is that they offer no minimum trade sizes. So you can start an account with $50 and literally trade $1 at a time. Or you can do like 1/5th of a microlot and only risk $0.50 on a trade. Their spreads are also quite good. Otherwise their trading platform is horrible.Oanda is regulated, even in the US. They are also one of the biggest brokers (top 5) dealing several billions of USD in daily transactions. If they were found to be participating in anything questionable, they'd be utterly destroyed by the US regulatory bodies.

It entirely depends upon your trading strategy and preferences. Oanda provides good execution and doesn't require any minimum deposit for personal accounts while FXCM lays down a minimum deposit requirement of $50. All withdrawals are also processed by Oanda within 1 day while FXCM takes 3-4 working days. Both are solid.
