Slicing up a hoard becomes no problem with these weapons. Also, to answer the question, the best melee weapons ingame in terms of raw damage are the long blade weapons (machete and katana). When it comes to durability nothing beats the crowbar (It also has a high knock down chance and good damage). Short blade weapons are heavily underestimated. Especially the hunting knife.
