New User. 6 minutes ago. #1. I'm going to look at a well-used John Deere 8440 and the seller says the reverse doesn't always work. Probably less than 75% of the time. Aside from linkages, what typically would be the cause of this?JD 8640 fuel problems. I have an 8640 that seems to have lost the desire to live. Had to change fuel filters on it the other day and discovered my hand primer was no good. Replaced that and eventually got the tractor started. Thought it was alright, idled fine and would run up to PTO speed just like normal.We had a John Deere 8440. It was fairly reliable, a bit hard to start. Performance was where it was lacking.
